This article references an exotic etheric energy technology employed by Ancient Tek to "charge" some of their nutritional supplement products and skin care products. Overview of the Intent of This Article
In early November 2007 I started receiving a number of reports which indicated that one or more persons in the ormus world and free energy world were accidentally spreading the erroneous rumor that the man whom I call by the pseudonym Robert in my article on this website on the Al Sinclair aetheric energy charging technology (to read this article, see the webpage on this site entitled Some Background and History on the Ancient Tek Aetheric Energy Charging Device) had ultimately died of poisoning from negative orgone energy, also known as deadly orgone, or DOR (the latter two terms were coined by Wilhelm Reich in the 1940s and 1950s), emitted by his aetheric energy charging machine. One typical inquiry which I received read as follows (note: in the post below, one name has been removed and another name changed for privacy reasons):


First, the report of Robert's demise is untrue, and the reality behind the myth will be examined on this page. And, in a related vein, of course, there have been a number of verified reports that several persons who have worked with this technology have grown ill from some kind of harmful radiation emitted by the devices while they were operating. It is my intent on this page to offer a reasonable and rational look at the facts behind these stories.

Please note that any errors or accidental misrepresentations in the stories told on this page are entirely my own, and are not the fault of any of my sources for the history of the technology or the details of the device in question!

Introduction
Much as referenced earlier, there have been some rumors extant in the ormus world and free energy world that the man -- whom I call by the name Robert -- who had resurrected Al Sinclair's original aetheric energy charging device from the 1950s had grown ill and died as the result of poisoning from harmful radiation known as deadly orgone energy, or DOR, emitted by the device while it was operating. It is not true that Robert died, and, as of late 2007, he is alive and well, and in his early fifties. However, it is true that he did fall quite ill for a while during the period immediately after the time in which he managed to get the machine working, and it is also true that there exist several verified stories of other researchers who have grown quite ill at times from working with etheric energy devices of the Al Sinclair design. In fact, I even have my own tale of interesting symptoms of radiation poisoning from high energy beta radiation) from exposure to an unshielded Al Sinclair-type aetheric energy charging device; I will share that tale in a later section to be found on this page. We will examine the details of Robert's illness, along with other reports of illness due to some type of strange ionizing radiation emitted by the Sinclair-type etheric energy device while it was operational, in the sections below.

And, as I have recounted on webpage on this site entitled Some Background and History on the Ancient Tek Aetheric Energy Charging Device, Danae Harding has reported that in the months after she and her son Vernon (a degreed electrical engineer) got their version of the Al Sinclair etheric energy device operational, they discovered that the device seemed to emit massive quantities of some type of ionizing radiation -- which reportedly could not be blocked at all by lead shielding -- which poured from several components within the device while it was operational and which apparently drove Geiger counters (i.e., ionizing radiation monitors) off-scale at distances of up to about ten feet away from the device, and which also caused PCs located throughout their home to crash. After a few weeks of using the device, Danae fell quite ill. We will examine some of the details of this radiation, and Danae's eventual redesign of the machine and her recovery, in the sections below.

Unexpected Illnesses Due to Exposure to the Aetheric Energy Charging Device
The Case of Robert's Illness
It has been reported by several reliable sources that Robert, the man who borrowed the original Al Sinclair aetheric energy charging device from the Relief Mine and who years later, in the early 2000s, got the device working, eventually grew quite ill after using the device infrequently across a span of several months. It appears that at the time, neither he nor anyone around him suspected that it was exposure to the device which was making him ill. In any case, all reports indicate that he grew more and more grievously ill, and that his condition did not respond to either conventional Western medical treatment nor to herbal treatments offered by a local Utah herbal practitioner. Eventually, as his condition worsened and he was close to death, Danae Harding was advised by a relative who had met Robert that he was quite ill, and was urged to travel to Colorado to meet him and to help him. With some further urging from her inner guidance, she did so, and she found him to be quite ill. After spending a number of months with him during which his body did not seem to respond to any treatments, mainstream or alternative, and during which his condition did not improve significantly, Danae received inner guidance indicating that she should seriously consider the fact that Robert's illness was due to some type of radiation poisoning from a source of ionizing radiation. She and Robert started immediately to act upon that assumption, and to implement relevant appropriate nutritional and herbal treatment for radiation poisoning, and in short order, Robert's condition started to improve for the first time in many months. They eventually realized that the source of the ionizing radiation must have been the Al Sinclair aetheric energy charging device which Robert had resurrected, and eventually, Danae and her son Vernon made some design changes to the device to lessen the levels of ionizing radiation emitted during operation. Then, within less than a year after Robert's recovery from his illness, Danae returned to her home, where she eventually built a similar device, but one modified somewhat for the purpose of treating water instead of treating agricultural soil. As of late 2007, all reports which I have received indicate that Robert remains, to this day, alive and quite well.

The Story of Danae's Illness
As recounted elsewhere on this website in the article offering an overview of the aetheric energy charging technology, Danae, upon her return home, eventually built and debugged -- with some assistance from her son Vernon, an electrical engineer -- a version of the aetheric energy device. However, once the device was operational, much as mentioned above, it became rather obvious that the device seemed to emit massive quantities of some type of ionizing radiation -- which reportedly could not be blocked at all by lead shielding -- which poured from several components within the device while it was operational and which apparently drove Geiger counters (i.e., ionizing radiation monitors) entirely off-scale at distances of up to about ten feet  away from the device, and which also caused PCs located throughout their home to crash.

After a few weeks of using the device, Danae also fell quite ill. She eventually become quite incapacitated, and she has since reported that clinical lab tests conducted at the time showed that her red blood cell count was very low and that her bone marrow had stopped producing new red blood cells, and that she was, in effect, dying. At about this time, Danae realized that her illness was due to some kind of ionizing radiation from the machine. She was subsequently guided by inner guidance to start drinking the aetheric energy -treated sparky water produced by the machine and also to start applying to her skin an etherically-charged ointment made using the spent electrolyte (aka spent cell juice; please see the article on this website entitled A Report on My Laboratory Analysis of Spent Electrolyte Liquid "Cell Juice" from the Ancient Tek Aetheric Energy Charging Device for more information on this esoteric golden yellow liquid) from the Joe Cell-like etheric energy cell in the machine. As soon as she took these steps, her body started to heal, and she then proceeded, using a portable radiation monitor, to perform a radiation emission survey of her aetheric energy device followed by a redesign effort so that it would emit far lower levels of the mysterious ionizing radiation. She also re-discovered the fact that lead shielding would not block the radiation, nor would most other metals. However, she eventually discovered that 1/8" thick layers of aluminum sheet would effectively block the radiation.

Ultimately, via radical re-design of the device, she was able to drastically reduce levels of ionizing radiation emitted by most of the components within the device, and ultimately, after her redesign work was completed, she reports that the only remaining component which still emitted significant levels of ionizing radiation under normal operating conditions was the charging cabinet, in which bottles of water were treated with an aetheric-energy charged high voltage spark and corona discharge to charge them with etheric energy. To effect shielding of radiation emitted by the charging cabinet, she chose to employ sheets of aluminum. Danae eventually fully recovered from the effects of the poisoning from the mysterious ionizing radiation, although she has stated that she feels that the recovery, while largely due to her ingestion of the sparky water (created within the device) and use of the etherically-charged cream, was also in part due to the fact that her body gradually adapted to the "frequency" of the radiation, at which point she felt that the radiation no longer posed a threat to her. Of course, this latter report is not at all surprising, as there exists a 100-plus year history in the scientific literature of gradual adaptation of humans and animals to elevated levels of ionizing radiation; this phenomenon is commonly called radiation hormesis (you can Google the term to learn far more about the topic, if you wish), and it is suspected that radiation hormesis is one of two inter-related mechanisms which largely account for the benefits reported across hundreds of years by visitors to radium mine health spas, which are a type of natural ionizing radiation health spa build on the sites of old radium mines (the only remaining commercial radium mine health spas in the USA seem to located in Montana, and there exist a number in Europe and Russia as well.)  Incidentally, on this note of beneficial effects from exposure to elevated levels of ionizing radiation, a research colleague reported to me in late 2007 that he had been in contact with a medical doctor in Sweden who claims to have discovered that miners working in a rural Swedish mine -- a mine exhibiting modestly high levels of ionizing radiation and bearing deposits of both pitchblende ore (uranium ore) and magnetite -- were actually growing younger and being healed of chronic disease due to their time spent in the mine tunnels.

Other Reports of Illness
As of early 2008, I have learned of two other cases, both in the Rocky Mountain states and/or the Southwestern states, of researchers using unremediated (that is, devices which had not been redesigned and modified to reduce levels of ionizing radiation) and unshielded Al Sinclair-type aetheric energy charging devices who developed serious illnesses, including cancer and other illnesses, after exposure to their devices. And, one more tale follows:

In fact, much as briefly referenced in the Introduction section above, I can share my own very minor tale in this regard! In the last quarter of 2007, I had the chance to visit with several researchers in the Rocky Mountain states who possessed functional Al Sinclair-type aetheric energy charging devices; in each case the devices were mounted on wooden pallets sitting on the floor and were entirely unremediated (that is, they had not been redesigned to reduce levels of ionizing radiation) and entirely unshielded; even the component which had been determined by other researchers to be the most powerful emitter of ionizing radiation, namely, the spark/corona discharge section, aka the charging plate section or striking plate (i.e., striking as in striking a high voltage arc or spark discharge) was entirely unshielded in each device. During one such visit, I stood directly in front of the charging plate -- with my lower legs and calves perhaps 1.5 feet from the charging plate and its bright blue-violet HV arc discharge -- for over five minutes while the device was operated at full power. Starting a few days later, I experienced three separate bouts with flulike and cold like symptoms, normally very unusual for me. Within two weeks after exposure to the device, I developed a rash (entirely unusual for me) of petechiae on the surfaces of my lower leg and feet which had been in direct or near-direct line-of-sight exposure to the nearby charging plate and its HV arc/corona discharge, and about five weeks later, I developed some mild symptoms of weakness, lightheadedness and malaise. A later quick consultation with a fellow researcher who is a certified radiation health physicist, and who is also familiar with the particular aetheric energy technology, confirmed that the most likely reason for the symptoms was radiation poisoning from exposure to the ionizing radiation emitted by the device. At about the same time, I received a phone call from a fellow researcher -- he is a degreed scientist who is also a health intuitive and a developer of esoteric nutritional supplements and ormus supplements -- who reminded me that he remotely scans my body about once per week using his intuitive abilities and normally finds me in very good health. However, he advised me, for the past month he had been noticing that something appeared to be going on in my lower legs and feet, as his recent energetic scans of my body had been revealing some marked imbalances and activity in points on the lower leg and foot regions of two acupuncture meridians, the stomach meridian and kidney meridian, and that these points were commonly associated with eliminating toxins.

Incidentally, in my case, as it dawned on me that my symptoms were likely due to modest radiation poisoning, I did not panic, and instead I simply increased my intake for a while of nutritional antioxidants, including Mega H- (aka MegaH, MegaHydrin and MegaHydrate), vitamin C, selenium, syntropic antioxidant microbial (SAM) brews (SCD's EM Plus culture and my own UJSAEM8X version of SAEM), SAM-fermented turmeric brew (from one of my own batches dating back to 2003), superfood nutritional powders made from antioxidant-rich blue and red/orange fruits and vegetables (i.e., Blue Lightning and Red Lightning) and alpha lipoic acid (ALA). I also applied Ancient Tek's Pharaoh's Cream to my lower legs and feet for three days and temporarily increased my intake of Ancient Tek's Sparky Water, since the latter two have helped other folks who were exposed the same type of radiation from the aetheric energy devices. In any case, in addition to being a mad scientist, I am also a spiritual healer, and I spend many hours per day in healing meditation (aka healing space), and Holy Spirit and Supreme Heart had already advised me on an inner level that I was fine, that my precautions noted above (i.e., increased intake of antioxidants, etc.), while fun, were really unnecessary, and that there was simply no reason to be concerned.

An Examination of the Radiation Characteristics - Was it Deadly Orgone, aka DOR?
First, it appears that the unmodified Al Sinclair-type aetheric energy devices emit some type of harmful ionizing radiation from most of the major components while the device is in operation, and that the version of the device modified by Danae Harding and her son Vernon Roth primarily emits this radiation only from the charging cabinet, where they employ aluminum shielding to drastically reduce levels of the radiation. As disclosed earlier, surveys with portable radiation monitors have indicated grossly off-scale levels of ionizing radiation out to a distance of over 10 feet from an unremediated and unshielded version of the device. Further, Danae has advised me that surveys performed with a portable radiation spectrometer have shown that her device -- even before modification to reduce emission of ionizing radiation -- exhibited an emission spectra consisting only of alpha and beta radiation under most operating conditions; there were, and are, certain special and rare operating conditions which will cause gamma radiation detectors to register moderately high levels of gamma radiation as well.

We also know that several observers have consistently reported seeing a blue or blue-violet glow emitted from several parts of the Al Sinclair-type aetheric energy charging devices while they are operating, particularly when viewed in a dark room, and that a bluish or violet glow also seems to envelop the entire charging booth/charging plate while the spark/arc discharge is occurring. 

Several sources in the world of aetheric and orgone energy studies have claimed that the mysterious ionizing radiation emitted by the Al Sinclair-type aetheric charging devices which caused Robert, Danae and others to fall ill was a harmful type of orgone energy (esoteric energy) which Wilhelm Reich had labeled deadly orgone, often abbreviated to the acronym DOR, and was not simply some type of conventional ionizing radiation such as alpha, beta and gamma radiation, or even neutron radiation. So, is it likely that the strange ionizing radiation emitted by the Sinclair-type etheric energy charging device really was DOR? The answer to that question is very much a nightmare of fuzziness and ambiguity, for even a cursory reading of Reich's many papers on the topics of deadly orgone and his related constructs of melanor and brownite (both of which he believed to be DOR-infested minerals), along with his writings on related matters such as his understanding of conventional sources of ionizing radiation (such as radioisotopes of radium, uranium or cesium) and even the more mundane topic of the operation of a Geiger-Mueller (GM) radiation monitor (aka Geiger counter) reveals that Reich was quite confused when it came to these realms. In fact, he appeared to have a rather superficial and often highly erroneous understanding of the behaviors and properties of radioactive isotopes, of the properties of ionizing radiation in the alpha, beta and gamma range, and even lesser understanding of the workings of GM radiation monitors and of how to interpret their readings. Worse, his description of the properties of DOR were conflicting and confusing at best. Perhaps the best overview of Reich's woeful misunderstandings in these realms is a set of several webpage articles about Reich and his work authored by software engineer and amateur scientist Roger M. Wilcox in the early 2000s; three of the best are listed and linked below:
While a few minor aspects of Wilcox's articles -- such as his insistence upon capitalizing the word "Volt" when mistakenly using that term to indicate electromotive force (EMF) -- irritate me a bit, I feel that his work is very well-researched and very well-reasoned, and that it, when coupled with an examination of Reich's writings on the topic of DOR and ionizing radiation, is very illuminating. Interestingly, when critiquing Reich's work in general on orgone and his central construct (in orgone theory) which he called the bion, another article by Wilcox which I feel is exemplary is his webpage entitled A Skeptical Scrutiny of the Works and Theories of WILHELM REICH as Related to the Problems with Reich's Use of the Microscope.

Thus, at best, Reich never did a very good job of defining DOR, and at worst, he issued numerous conflicting and contradictory explanations of the characteristics of DOR. In fact, while it indeed may be true that DOR may well exist -- and Reich's incompetence in describing this hypothetical construct does not render DOR an impossible model -- when I read Reich's descriptions of deadly orgone and of melanor and brownite, I start to feel like I am reading the work of a raving madman. And, this may not be too far from the truth. A number of persons who knew Reich during his later days at his Organon facility -- during the time when he became more and more obsessed with the topics of DOR and also with the topic of alien invaders from outer space -- have reported that he seemed depressed, erratic and perhaps psychotic. And, I have heard from several folks who had followed his work during the end of his stay in the Tucson, AZ area (when he was working with cloudbusters and also using his cloudbuster as a Space Gun to "dissolve" purported enemy alien spacecraft) that with each passing day Reich seemed to become more depressed, more confused and more erratic. In any case, it is well established that Reich was a man largely consumed by his own inner demons, and they seem to have affected his work in a number of ways as well.

So, the bottom line is that we cannot really be sure of what Reich meant by the term deadly orgone, as he never issued a coherent, consistent and reasonable explanation for DOR and for its behavior. This failure on Reich's part does not, of course, mean that DOR does not exist, just as my failure to competently describe an elephant standing next to me means that the elephant does not exist, but it does leave us without a coherent and clear definition of the properties of DOR and how to reliably differentiate it from conventional ionizing radiation. In fact, we cannot even be sure if DOR is supposed to also exhibit ionizing radiation as a concomitant signature, as some of Reich's words seem to imply that DOR must be accompanied by high levels of conventional ionizing radiation in the alpha, beta and gamma part of the spectrum, while other writings by Reich seem to imply that DOR is much more mysterious and invisible than all that, and that it will be characterized by a relative absence of conventional ionizing radiation. To confuse matters further, Reich at times seems to have insisted that even "good" orgone caused nearby ionizing radiation detectors to display very high readings, and at one point, he went so far as to claim that mainstream science had gotten it all backwards, and that in reality, radiation detectors --- such as those employing Geiger-Muller tubes -- really were not detecting ionizing radiation at all, but rather were detecting orgone (i.e., good orgone.)

Yes, it does appear that the radiation emitted by the devices exhibited behaviors which would be anomalous for conventional alpha, beta and gamma ionizing radiation, and it is also true that conventional Western physics would also be hard-pressed to explain why such a device would even emit significant amounts of any of these types of ionizing radiation (after all, there were no components such as evacuated electron tubes which could accidentally function as an X-ray tube when excited by a high voltage...) in the first place, but that alone does not prove that the ionizing radiation emitted by the machines was DOR.

Largely due to the fact that I have never seen the logical tool known as Occam's Razor (which states that the simplest and most straight-forward explanation is always the likeliest explanation for the causative factors behind a phenomenon) to fail, I always prefer to first try to invoke the models and hypotheses of modern Western science when examining phenomena such as the one under discussion, before moving on to exploring more esoteric and fuzzy New Age explanations such as deadly orgone. In this case, I prefer to look at possible explanations involving conventional ionizing radiation, including neutron radiation, before bothering to look at more esoteric and colorful explanations such as deadly orgone energy, aka DOR. And, as related above, one good reason why I prefer to avoid explanations which may involve deadly orgone (aka DOR) is the bare and simple fact that Wilhelm Reich never explained DOR very well, and, in fact, he issued numerous contradictory and conflicting statements about the properties and behaviors of DOR. Who knows what he was really talking about, and who knows how much of what he wrote was his own fevered and somewhat paranoid imagination?

The bottom line seems to be that the reports of the behavior of the radiation and of the measures which finally were employed to shield against it (while lead did not work, aluminum sheet seemed to offer effective shielding) seem to indicate that the mysterious radiation may have been largely high energy bata radiation or even neutron radiation. In some ways, this would not be surprising, since there have been fairly regular reports of anomalous bursts of neutron radiation from many later-generation instantiations of cold fusion electrochemical cells, particularly those dedicated to anomalous anode glow studies; these cells bear a distinct resemblance to the modified Joe Cell battery in the Sinclair-type aetheric energy charging device.

So, to return to our earlier question, was the radiation from the Sinclair-type etheric energy devices DOR? The reality is that we have no real idea whether it was or not. My own sense, as of early 2008, is that no matter what, at least some of the radiation emitted by the devices is/was alpha and beta radiation. Further, while I had postulated for a while that significant levels of neutron radiation might also be present, due to the utter failure of lead to shield the radiation and to the success of aluminum in shielding it, I have since had several interesting and informative conversations with a certified radiation health physicist (thank you, Jack!), and I am leaning more and more toward the hypothesis that the radiation may have consist largely of high energy beta rays. Why? Well, high energy beta radiation cannot be shielded by lead shielding (as the collisions between the photons and components of the lead atoms would produce massive amounts of secondary gamma radiation and other ionizing radiation) and yet it can be shielded quite effectively by aluminum. I also note the above-referenced repeated mentions of the fact that observers have noted a bluish light in and around certain components of the aetheric energy charging device when it is operational, and I note that in the world of ionizing radiation, emission of a bluish light (particularly noticeable in a dark room) is associated with high levels of high energy beta radiation, due to a phenomenon known as Cerenkov radiation. And, since conventional open-air HV spark, arc or corona discharges do not emit any significant levels of ionizing radiation, my own personal opinion -- based partly upon inner guidance as well -- is that HV-assisted aetheric energy devices such as the Al Sinclair aetheric energy devices accidentally torture orgone energy (aka aetheric energy) due to the flow and discharge of HV current, and that it is this tortured orgone energy which then seems to emit the types of ionizing radiation which I have discussed immediately above. In fact, based upon my own intuitive insight and inner guidance, I must disagree with the contention of Reich and his followers that deadly orgone, aka DOR, is a separate entity from orgone, and rather, it appears to me that so-called deadly orgone is nothing more than tortured or stressed orgone energy, which, when so tortured or stressed under certain conditions, will cause the emission of various types of ionizing radiation, particularly of high energy beta radiation.
